Di dalam dunia tasawuf, kita banyak mengenal tokoh sufi yang memiliki perjalanan hidup dan pengalaman rohani yang luar biasa. Salah satu di antara tokoh-tokoh sufi itu adalah Syekh Abu Bakar as-Syibli.
Nama lengkapnya Abu Bakar Dulaf bin Juhdar, dalam Thabaqah al-Sufiyyah beliau lebih dikenal dengan nama Ja’far. As-Syibli dinisbatkan kepadanya karna beliau dibesarkan di Kota Syibli di wilayah Khurasan, Persia (Iran). Beliau dilahirkan pada tahun 247 H di Baghdad tepatnya di daerah yang bernama Samara. Dan wafat di tahun 334 H Bulan Dzulhijjah pada usianya yang ke-87 tahun dan dimakamkan di pemakaman al-Khaizaran, Baghdad (Irak).
Mulai Melakoni Spiritual Sufi
Mulanya Abu Bakar as-Syibli adalah seorang gubernur di wilayah Nahawand, namun karena cekcok masalah jubah dengan khalifah, pada akhirnya khalifah merasa tersinggung, dan saat itulah Abu Bakar dicopot dari jabatannya. Sebab hal inilah kemudian Abu Bakar as-Syibli melakoni spiritual tasawuf. Abu Bakar as-Syibli lalu berguru kepada Khair al-Nassaj, dan dikirimkan kepada sahabat sekaligus guru beliau yaitu Imam Junaid.
Mengkritik Masyarakat
Fariduddin al-Atthar dalam Tazkirat al-Auliya’ mengisahkan kisah-kisah unik Abu Bakar as-Syibli. Kisah unik Abu Bakar as-Syibli merupakan sindiran atau kritikan bagi kehidupan beragama kala itu. Salah satunya Abu Bakar as-Syibli ingin memenggal leher orang yang mengucapkan lafadz ‘Alloh’ sebagai kritikan kepada masyarakat.
Dikisahkan kala itu Abu Bakar as-Syibli memiliki banyak manisan, kemudian keluarlah beliau kepada segerombolan anak-anak dengan membawa manisan itu. Beliau berkata, “barang siapa yang mengucapkan lafal ‘Alloh’ akan aku berikan manisan ini kepadanya”. Anak-anak itupun mengucapkannya, kemudian Abu Bakar menghadiahkan manisan kepada mereka.

Keosakan harinya Abu Bakar as-Syibli mempunyai banyak uang, beliau keluar dengan membawa uang itu seraya berkata, “barang siapa yang mengucapkan lafal ‘Alloh’ akan aku berikan uang ini kepadanya”. Kemudian dengan serentak merekapun mengucapkannya, lalu Abu Bakar as-Syibli membagikan uang itu kepada mereka.
Di kesempatan yang lain, Abu Bakar as-Syibli keluar dengan membawa pedang di tangannya, seraya berkata, “barang siapa yang mengucapkan lafal ‘alloh’ akan aku tebas lehernya dengan pedang ini”, ancam Abu Bakar. Sontak orang-orang yang mendengar pun kaget dan bertanya kepadanya “wahai Abu Bakar, kemarin kau memberi manisan dan uang kepada orang yang mengucapkan lafal ‘Alloh’, sekarang kau mau menebas leher orang-orang karena ucapan yang sama. Lantas, apa yang sebenarnya terjadi?”, tanya salah seorang kepada Abu Bakar as-Syibli.
Dengan suara lantang nan menggelegar beliau menjawab, “aku tahu, pasti kalian mengucapkan lafal ‘Alloh’ tidak dengan keyakinan sebenar-benarnya. Kemarin aku melihat mereka mengucapkannya dengan penuh lalai yang mengharapkan manisan dan uang, maka dari itu lafal ‘Alloh’ yang suci dan mulia tak pantas keluar dari mulut yang lalai dan kotor, biar kupenggal saja leher mereka.”
Kisah ini merupakan kritikan Abu Bakar as-Syibli kepada kebanyakan orang yang beragama secara matreialistis. Begitulah cara sufi Abu Bakar as-Syibli mengkritik masyarakat kala itu.
Salah satu kalam sufistik Abu Bakar as-Syibli yang sangat indah adalah:
مَنِ إدَّعَى اْلمَحَبَّةَ, ثُمَّ اشْتَغَلَ بِغَيْرِ اْلمَحْبُوْبِ اَوْ طَلَبَ غَيْرَهُ, فَالْحَقُّ أَنَّهُ مُسْتَهْزِءٌ بِالْمَحْبُوْبِ
“Barang siapa mengaku cinta, namun ia sibuk dengan selain yang dicinta atau mengharap kepada selainnya, maka hakikatnya itu adalah orang yang menghina cinta (mengkhianati cinta)”.
